A Drumming Circle is any group of people playing (usually) hand drums, flat drums, any kind of drumming and percussion instrument, in a circle. This kind of activity is distinct from a drumming group or troupe in that the drum circle is an end in itself rather than preparation for a performance. Such a drumming circle can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants.

Generally we gather to drum for various purposes, primarily healing and sending energy to wherever it is most needed, including to ourselves. We call it a drum circle because a circle offers equality with no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves, to create a group consciousness, a collective voice, which emerges from the group as we drum together.
A Healing Circle is when a group of people gather with a purpose of building a cone of healing energy (drawing the divine energy down into ourselves and then into the collective cone of energy) with a focused purpose or intention. Sometimes we send Peace out to the Universe (there can never be enough peace). Sometimes we place a healing cauldron in the center of our circle and we put names of individuals that need or have requested healing and when we send out the cone of healing energy we focus it on the cauldron. We will also do a hands-on healing on each other, placing the one receiving the healing in the center of the circle and we focus the built up energy on that person. It is quite an experience!
When we add healing to the intention of the drumming, it enhances the focus of the healing energy that is sent out. In the past we have done drumming and healing for Peace, to heal the earth, to heal the waters, places where natural disasters have occurred, where extra healing and help is needed the most. The group is open to requests for sending healing to individuals, to places, and out, to the world.
This event is free. If you have your own drums or rattles, bring them. If you don’t, we have plenty to share. Join us! The next drumming circle will be on Friday, November 30th at 6:30. Call ahead to double check dates and times. Sometimes the dates get rearranged, so it might be wise to check before coming out - 315 - 243-1828. Dates and times are also listed in the RosePetals newsletter that is sent out each month, along with Gentle Reminders. If you do not receive these emails and would like to, contact Virginia Waldron at gatkepr@dreamscape.com.
